Trekking is a growing trend for travellers wanting to see more that the world has to offer, and having the best trekking insurance is an absolute must, to cover you for medical and repatriation expenses primarily, but also to cover you for all the other things that can go wrong on your holiday. If you get the wrong insurance and you’re half way up Mount Kenya (5199 metres) and you get into difficulty you may well find your insurance company won’t help.

Unlike others, we’ve kept things very simple. On our standard policy, you can go trekking or walking up to an altitude not exceeding 2000 metres (6561 feet). This will cover the majority of general waking holidays. If you take out the Adventure Pack when you take out the insurance, this covers you for trekking to any altitude on recognised routes. There is no restriction on altitude whatsoever, so if you’re going to Everest Base Camp in Nepal (5364 metres), Kilimanjaro (5895 metres), Machu Picchu (2430 meters) or even Kala Pattar, high up in the Himalayas (5643 metres), don’t worry, you’re covered when you take out the adventure pack.

Surely there’s a catch? Well the only catch is that if you’re trekking above the snowline we recommend wearing crampons and use ropes to be tethered together. If you are not trekking as part of a guided and organised route, then cover is restricted to groups of no less than 3 people in possession of a working 2 way communication such as a mobile or satellite phone. Please note there is no cover if trekking against local authority advice.

The True Traveller is primarily a travel company, not an insurance company, and although we believe we’ve designed the best value trekking insurance we possibly can, we understand that the price of insurance does put people off taking it out to start with. Our maxim is, if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.

True Traveller Insurance is rated 4.9 out of 5 based on 66 customer reviews.
